COMM2202 Facilitation Feedback Questions:
My questions I asked for feedback on:
1. How did I start the discussion? Was I clear with my points? What could I
have done at the start of the discussion to make the conversation flow
more smoothly?
2. Did I hand my interruptions/disagreements well during the discussion?
Were there times where I could have done better keep the conversation
focussed on the main topic?
3. How did I do in terms of keeping the discussion on track and helping the
group reach a conclusion? Is there anything I can improve in the next
discussion?
First group members feedback for first all three questions
1) personally think you introduced the topic really well. You were clear with the concern, and left us to debate the outcome. I think instead of repeating how we should handle the situation, summing up our points against the outcome I think would show which outcome is stronger
2) During the conversation we never strayed from the main problem, and all topics had a meaning to it’s presence in the conversation. I felt as if you mostly agreed with the last person who spoke. I think joining in the debate and saying “I agree, but” to actively engage with both sides and understood both point of views.
3) You kept it clear that you were seeking advice on what measures you were wanting to take when we had just started talking about frustrations. I think for future meetings you could sum up your colleges points against the conclusion to see how strong the outcome is.
Second group members feedback for first all three questions
1) You started the discussion by giving a quick overview of the topic, which helped set the stage for the discussion. This helped set the stage for the discussion and what you were looking for from the discussion. A way to create a smoother discussion would be to be even more explicit about the goals for the conversation to create more of a guideline from the conversation.
2) You handled interruptions and disagreements calmly and did not let them turn into debates. As a participant I feel this helped the conversation feel respectful and kept people comfortable sharing their ideas. An area of improvement could be stepping in a bit sooner when their were interruptions to keep the conversation on track.
3) You did a great job bringing the group back when it got off topic. One thing you could do to make your facilitation stronger is being more explicit when the group is getting closer to a conclusion and guiding us toward wrapping up the conversation.
Third group members feedback for first all three questions
1) One thing you did well at the start of the discussion was clearly introducing the topic and outlining the main focus of the meeting. That helped me understand the purpose of the conversation right away and feel prepared to participate. One area of improvement would be adding a brief opening question to ease into the discussion. That could have helped the conversation feel more natural from the beginning and encouraged earlier participation.
2) One thing you did well was handling interruptions and disagreements calmly and respectfully. You allowed different perspectives to be shared without shutting anyone down, which helped maintain a safe and open environment. One area of improvement would be redirecting the conversation back to the main topic when it started to drift off. Briefly summarizing the point made and the linking it back to the central question could have helped the discussion stay more focused.
3) One thing you did well was consistently guiding the conversation back even if the distractor was trying to make it go off track. That made it easier to follow the flow and understand how each point contributed to the overall topic. One area of improvement would be spending a bit more time going over the key ideas at the end to clearly highlight the group’s conclusion. Doing so would make the discussion feel more complete and ensure everyone leaves with an understanding on the main takeaways that were brought up.
