I am hiring for 2 essays, 2 pages each. Below, I’ve written the instructions for both, and ill specify which prompts are for which paper
REQUIRED TEXT:
For paper 1, the reading is chapters 11 and 12 of “society and technological change: 9th edition” by Rudi Volti and Jennifer Croissant
For paper 2, the reading is chapter 13 of “society and technological change: 9th edition” by Rudi Volti and Jennifer Croissant and chapter 6- epilogue of “The mcdonaldization of scoiety” by George Ritzer
You must have 3 in text citations. Please use quotes from the text if you can, if not, let me know
Instructions for paper 1:
Explicitly referring to course readings and lectures using citations, please discuss ONE of the questions below. Your answer should be ~2-3 pages double spaced. There should be at least 3 explicit citations from texts or readings. You are free to use content from other weeks if appropriate.
- Discuss the growth in the gig economy. What are the pros and cons of being part of the Gig economy? Assess who benefits most from the shift toward a gig economy?
- The film, The Future of Work and Death, highlights rapid changes wrought by technology. Using your own social location as an example, discuss what the film highlights in respect to your own future.
- Consider the relationship between technological development and labor. Discuss using insights shared in lecture, films and text to summarize the relationship and to discuss using current examples.

Explicitly referring to course readings and lectures using citations, please discuss ONE of the questions below. Your answer should be ~2-3 pages double spaced. There should be at least 3 explicit citations from texts or readings. You are free to use content from other weeks if appropriate.
- What are some ways you can resist the Iron cage? How do you subvert the irrationality of rationality. Be sure to use clear examples.
- When you consider McDonaldization do you think the cage is iron, velvet, or rubber? Why and can you provide some examples?
- Describe the dimensions of irrationality using one setting as an example to facilitate providing examples of each.
- Apply irrationality to changes in work as discussed in Volti. Be concrete with examples.
