12-2: Financial Health Analysis & Presentation

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to assess your ability to report on the financial health of a major corporation.

Overview

This is a group assignment. You will work with two of your classmates to complete a financial health analysis of an organization, write a 6-8 page paper reporting on this analysis, and deliver an 8-10 minute presentation. The paper and presentation are due in Unit 12. Your instructor will discuss the details of this assignment during several class meetings.

On the , your instructor will provide a list of organizations from which your group may choose. Your group is to respond with your names to the organization you would like to research. Additional details are provided in the Announcements and during several class meetings. You are encouraged to participate in these class meetings as frequently as possible.

Your group should carefully review the rubric for this assignment before you begin your research.

Action Items

  1. Communicate with the members of your group to discuss your group strategy for this assignment. You may use the communication tool of your choice.
  2. Research your organization. Analyze the financial health of your corporation. Your analysis should include (but should not be limited to) a variety of relevant factors such as:
  • Profitability
  • Liquidity and cash flow
  • Debt and other liabilities
  • Investments
  • Pensions and other postretirement benefits
  • Share-based compensation plans
  • Growth plans

As you research, be sure to use the most recent annual report of the corporation. However, do not limit yourself to just this information.

  1. By the end of Unit 10, your instructor will post an Announcement with details about the Unit 12 class meeting(s) for the delivery of your 8-10 minute group presentation. Use PowerPoint to create a slide show for this presentation. NOTE: Each group member is to have a speaking role in the presentation.
  2. By Unit 12, write a 6- 8 page paper (double-spaced, 12 point font) describing the financial health of your corporation. Provide your recommendation on whether or not you would recommend investing in this corporation. Be sure to include a brief introduction of the corporation and its products and/or services. Use proper APA citation and references. Remember to put the paper in your own words except for properly cited quotes.
  3. Submit your paper to Turnitin and make any necessary changes to the paper as a result of this submission.
  4. Format your paper and cite your references using proper APA style. A template, which includes the APA formatting you need, is linked .
  5. Your paper must be submitted with your Turnitin report before your group presentation during the online class meeting presentation.
  6. During Unit 12, your group is to be prepared to deliver an 8 -10 minute PowerPoint presentation summarizing your group’s paper via an online class meeting. Provide your professor with a copy of your groups PowerPoint presentation via email at least 24 hours before your presentation. Be prepared to answer questions posed by your classmates and the instructor.

Read the assignment rubric to understand how your work will be assessed.

This assignment is also used to assess Accounting (AS) and Forensic Accounting (AS) Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) through the rubric. The PLO assessment will appear as separate rows within the rubric; it will not contribute points to the assignment. Note: Students take this course to fulfill different degree requirements. This PLO assessment is used to assess the associate degree program effectiveness. If you are a bachelors student, you can disregard these rows in the rubric.
